Things I learned this summer

Hey you! welcome back to my blog, it’s been long since I posted and I just want to say welcome back and of course Happy New Month!!! Today is the first day of the month of September which is also my birthday month (Just thought you should know) and I would also like to announce that this is my 40th post on my blog

yes that’s right 40 posts (Amazing right) I never really noticed that I had posted that much 😊. Today’s post is basically like a spin-off of my previous post “10 Things I learned last semester” where I talked about a few lessons that I learned from my last semester in school. First of all, this summer wasn’t really a holiday because I worked throughout (Internship) and I still managed to have a little fun but still the stress I faced was just on a totally different level. Even in all the stress,  I managed to take note of a few things that I felt I needed to share. So here are the things I learnt this summer:

  • Lack of confidence is very bad: This is something that I have a lot of issues with. I don’t like talking honestly and at my place of work I always sat on my chair and only stood up when I wanted to use the toilet, it got to a point where someone at my office came to me and said “hi, do you ever talk” and at that moment I realized a lot of people there thought I couldn’t talk for some weird reason. Even when I entered public transport I would prefer to misplace than to ask people for directions (Yes it was that bad).
  • Nigerians are Wild! I can’t really explain what I mean by this because If I start explaining I’ll need like three posts for all my stories. I really understood why people say “You can never be a good driver if you can’t drive in Lagos”. You just need to know now before its too late that Nigerians are wild!
  • When you are working for your money you learn how to spend it wisely: This summer was all about my internship honestly and the majority of the money I had was from it and all of a sudden I became a very cheap person unexpectedly. The way I spent money suddenly changed, little amounts became big in my ear because I didn’t feel I needed to spend the little money I had on things that I didn’t need.
  • We need to appreciate our beds more: Our beds really deserve some accolades honestly I finally understood the feeling of having a very stressful day and getting home to find this comfy and soft platform waiting to help you relax. Trust me beds are heroes.
  • Podcasts are really good: I recently started listening to podcasts this summer and I fell in love with them. I started listening to Jesus and Jollof by Luvvie Ajayi and Yvonne Orji. That podcast opened the door to many other podcasts that have really helped me a lot. You should try podcasts too!
  • “We’ll definitely link up this summer” is a BIG scam: This probably doesn’t apply to everybody but personally I remember saying that particular line to a lot of people and we never actually linked up but that’s life actually. The sooner you start to recognize that its a scam the less time you waste making promises.

Well, these are a few things I learnt this summer. In celebration of my 40th post, I am going to be selecting my top 5 favourite posts and I would also love to know your favourite too (Drop yours in the comment section). So out of all my posts, my top 5 are:

Minding your business 101

Hey guys welcome back to my blog, how have you been ? what have you been up to? anyways I am wonderful and I just recently finished my IT (Internship) which I am grateful to God for the grace to start and finish well (Expect a post on this soon). So back to the matter, today I am going to be giving a little beginners guide to minding your business you could call it a little tutorial to guide you to a path where another person’s business is of no concern to you.

First I have to tell you how I got the inspiration for this post, I was actually taking a look at a list of post topics I made and I wasn’t really feeling most of the posts on the list and to cut the story short I noticed a lot of people on my Whatsapp kept posting “Some people need to learn how to mind their business” and I was like that is what I am going to write about in order to help people know how and when to mind their business. I will start this insightful post with this bible verse:

and to aspire to live quietly, to attend to your own matters, and to work with your own hands, as we instructed you.

– 1 Thessalonians 4:11

The most important part of that verse is “To attend to your own matters”. It clearly says to your own matters, not your neighbour’s matter, not your friend’s matter, not your sister’s matter but your OWN MATTER. People who are unable to mind their own business are most likely internally miserable. They seek to find faults with others just to make themselves feel better. Helping a friend whose present situation seems distressed can be helpful at times but there is only so much advice you can give without pushing the limits.

Even if you don’t agree with what someone else is doing sometimes, you need to take a relax your nerves and let them make their own mistakes. Because I am a very nice person I am going to be giving you some simple tips to help you mind your business from today:

adult-asia-attractive-937453

  • If there’s a conversation, meeting, or exclusive event to which you have not been invited, please don’t interrupt. Stay away or walk away. Even though being excluded can be painful, it’s important to recognize that there may be good reasons why something is not your business.
  • When you have the urge to poke your nose in someone else’s business, ask yourself certain questions like, “What will this add to my life” or “How does it concern me?”. If it is something related to you, then you can give it a thought, but if it doesn’t affect you in any way, then please go far away.
  • No one asked you for your opinion so why are you putting your mouth. Trouble always comes when you involve yourself in people’s business if someone didn’t invite you to join the conversation why are you opening your mouth.
  • Stop gossiping: I know it’s not easy, trust me I also find it hard not to gossip but this is like the highest level of not minding your business. You really need to stop gossiping, I know it’s a very serious addiction but you can get over it with great help from the Lord.
  • Please learn to respect people’s boundaries: this is something that a lot of people don’t know how to do and it really annoys me. You need to recognize that everyone has a right to privacy and that each person is in charge of their own lives. Don’t expect people to share personal information with you all the time. One good way of respecting boundaries is being careful not to overstep your relationship with a person.
  • You need to understand Body language: Step back when people communicate directly or indirectly that you should do so. Respect others when they tell you that something is not your business or even change the subject. Even when they don’t explicitly tell you to get out, be aware of what their body language is saying.
  • Don’t be giving advice you were not asked for: I know it is very tempting to comment when you see something that isn’t in line with your views but sister/brother please keep quiet. Honestly, if you give me an advice that I didn’t ask for I won’t adhere to it.

These are some major tips I feel can help you mind your business effectively. It’s funny how You would be very surprised with how much positive changes that you could make in your life if you could just mind your own business. A person that minds their own business is always happy like him

adult-chill-computer-450271

The moral of the post is that you should try your best to not interfere in other people’s lives, face yours and you will be happy. Always remember to

Make somebody happy today by Minding your own business.

And also to

Drink water and mind your business.

MOBILE GAMES THAT USED TO BE POPULAR

Hey, guys welcome to the beautiful month of August, how was July for you? Well, It was really good for me actually and it was also really fast. No matter how July went it is a new month which also means its an opportunity for new beginnings. I’m kick-starting this month with Today’s post which is kind of special because it’s about mobile games which we all play or have definitely played at some point in our lives. I am going to be basically talking about some particular games that were so popular but now people hardly play them sadly.

candy-crush-device-electronics-228963
I thought about this post while I was at work (not playing games of course). I started remembering all the games for some weird reason and It was funny how I used to be so in love and obsessed with these games and I felt they deserved a post of recognition, I also wanted to see who else played it (If you ever played these games please specify which in the comment section below). Okay, let’s begin.

2013012152TempleRunSc.aa911

  • Temple Run: this game was just crazy, if you were not playing temple run then please come and explain what happened to you. It was one of the most popping games on play store and the app store at that time. It had three parts I think (Temple run 1, Temple run 2 and the one Disney went to make) my favourite was definitely Temple run 2. My highest score if I remember correctly was probably 10 million (The MVP of the Lamina House lol) mostly because I wasted a lot of my parent’s money on buying GEMS. I also loved the fact that I could change characters too. Which temple run was your favourite?

  • Subway Surfers: I played this game to the point where I actually learnt the song lool. It was such a fun game, I remember me and my friends taking turns to see who will get the highest score in the game lool. If you didn’t play subway surfers I can forgive you because behind every none subway surfer player there is a story and don’t worry I understand.

416710-7-tips-for-high-scores-on-flappy-bird

  • Flappy bird: OMIGOD this game. If you didn’t play this game you are luckyyyy. This game brought out the anger in me that I didn’t even know I had every time I lost because I was always so close to getting the high score. If I remember correctly the game came out when I was in secondary school and it was like the whole school just went crazy in a way when it came out. Everyone wanted to get the highest score in the flappy bird because it was so hard. I remember someone in my class feeling like the king of the game because his highest score was 12 lool can you imagine.

com.king.candycrushsaga-1

  • Candy Crush: There was candy crush saga, candy crush soda. I recently deleted this game actually because it’s still fun to play but really annoying to lose (like really) especially when you have one Jelly left. My mates were on leave 382 I was still thinking of how to pass level 33. It is a very fun game if you are winning but when you are losing you just get annoyed (That’s actually how I deleted it).

piano-tiles-share

  • Piano tiles: This game was so funnnn. People always did competitions for who will touch the white tiles first and it also had different levels and the music was also fun to sing along to.

EXTRA

cropped-4-Pics-1-Word-Perfil

  • 4 pics 1 Word: I played this game till the end and by the end I mean until my phone stopped working that time and I think I got to level 1000 before I stopped playing and I remember I did like only 300 levels myself the rest was just cheating honestly because my brain was just too tired honestly.

These are the major games that used to be so popular (some are still popular actually). I feel there are other games, you can add more games in the comment section below because I feel I am missing a few games and also drop a comment if you played these games and felt all the emotions I also did too. Before you leave let’s play a little game, can you solve the 4 pics 1-word puzzle below:

10 tips for unlocking your inner creativity

Hey, guys welcome back to my blog its been long since I wrote a post like this and I am sorry about that but I am back. Today, I am going to be giving helpful tips for unlocking your creative mind to produce new ideas for innovation. Creativity is basically using original ideas to create something exceptional.

Quotefancy-6361641-3840x2160

We were all born with creativity most people just don’t know how to release it and some that already have it don’t know how to use it that’s why I am here to guide you into the light. So I have 10 major tips that I believe that if you follow you will start getting the creative ideas you need to create new things. Take a look at them:

  • Inspire yourself: inspiration is very powerful has Scooter Braun once said, “ If you want to inspire the world, first inspire yourself ”. When you are inspired, motivation to think and take action comes and through that is where the idea is developed.
  • Simplify your life: We are exposed to more information than ever before, and it can be overwhelming. Too much information influences our thoughts and prevents us from thinking creatively. Honestly, it is hard to find an original idea in the midst of everyone else’s ideas.
  • Take Risks: This is something I refused to do for a long time while growing up when I saw myself in a challenging situation I always looked for every opportunity to get out of it but I later realized that in order for you to grow, you need to face challenges not run away from them. If you take the same risks as when you bet all the money you have on Nigeria beating England in a friendly match why can’t take that same risk when it comes to moving forward with your creative endeavours?
  • Slow down: You don’t have to push yourself too fast just because you need an idea. It is during the downtime you set for yourself that your best ideas will surface.
  • Start moving: Stop sitting and start doing. Get your body moving because it will increase your energy and your creativity which is what you need to implement the idea you get.
  • Surround yourself with creative people: Albert Einstein once said that,”Creativity is contagious, Pass it on”. Talk to people about your ideas, let them give you feedback. Even though feedback can be painful (especially on something personal) it can give you the courage to improve.
  • Let go of the idea of “perfection”: Nobody is perfect so why should you be stressing yourself to get perfection. So let go of perfection and realize that creativity is an ongoing process.
  • Have fun: Having fun unleashes the creative side of the brain. So play and be spontaneous.
  • Get out: I am not saying you should enter the sunken place. Rumour has it that when you step out and do a little exercise or engage in activities it helps build your creative mind.
  • Aim to fail: Failure is the foundation for success. Learn to embrace and celebrate failure, and you’ll forever transform your understanding of the creative process.

Well, these are the few points I have that I believe can help you and if you follow them you will definitely start to get a lot of ideas that can make the world better than it is now but what can stop you from being creative is when you doubt yourself if you don’t think you can be creative enough to innovate then you just can’t be creative, So this is the end of the post and I will just like to end with this quote from Earl Nightingale:

OPERATION SMILE: Charity Program

Hey guys, Welcome back to my blog. Last time I talked about my playlist for this summer and today we are going to be talking about a charity program that is coming up on July 28th called “OPERATION SMILE” which is a charity outreach by the “Give to Live” organisation.

IMG-20180518-WA0010

Give to Live is a developing organisation that was convened by Mosaku, Simisola Lateefat

WhatsApp Image 2018-05-18 at 5.51.04 PM

an undergraduate of microbiology at Babcock University. At less than 18 years old, she already had a passion for charity and believed in the quote,

Kindness is like a baton, when passed to you, you pass to the next person.

She constantly does charity in the littlest way possible in her immediate environment and she always wanted to have her own charity organisation. Her first outreach to Red Cross orphanage remains very clear in her memory and she sees the need to make a difference, to birth dreams and help lives.

At the age of 19, she summoned the courage to bring her imagination to reality, to give back to society. During her 200 level Christmas holiday she formed a team with some trusted friends and the Give to Live journey began. Within months, Give to live has moved from a dream to actual planning and is looking forward to execution during its first outreach; A visit to Little Saints Orphanage in Lagos.

Give to Live’s mission is:

  • To mitigate the living conditions of the poor and needy.
  • To help in the educational system of young kids in public schools and orphanages.
  • To organise family style eating events for street urchins and needy in general.
  • To fund projects pertaining to the development of community I.e free medical checkups for the old.

IMG-20180518-WA0009

Give to Live needs your support in cash or kind to put a smile on the faces of the children at Little Saints Orphanage on the 28th of July. They, as a team, can only do a little, but with support from you, they would do a lot more. Please join us to help make our first outreach a success by following the instructions below:

So basically this going to be like a party where there would be a Dj playoff, food, drinks, bouncing castle, popcorn, cotton candy, ice cream, face painting, body art and some young minds to teach different arts like; Origami art, Tassel earrings, making of artworks from scraps e.g corks, sticks, rubber bands and used bottles.

hey you! Welcome back to my blog and if this is your first time Welcome you should check out the start here page for a quick orientation. So today I am going to sharing my summer playlist with you guys which is basically songs that I just can’t stop listening too. I would like to say first that music is my sanity, I listen to music all the time and I always say there is a song for every moment I would have loved to categorize each of the songs into a mood but I don’t need to do that because my friend Tobi already made it easy for us with his post “The Ideal Playlist For You” which I loved. So in my post, I am just going to give you the list and why I love the songs. My list comprises of Nigerian songs and Obodo Oyinbo (The Abroad) songs,. Take a look:

  • I Got the Juice – Janelle Monae ft Pharrell Williams: This song is so catchy and I can’t listen to it without dancing. The song is a real confidence booster.
  • Django Jane – Janelle Monae: I love this song because of the lyrics and the way she rapped in the song was just too lit.
  • I like that – Janelle Monae: Please don’t be annoyed because I have like 3 Janelle Monae songs here but I just have to appreciate and give her the accolades she deserves mehnnn.
  • All the stars – Kendrick Lamar & SZA: This song is jam! This is one of my favourite songs from the Black Panther album and the video was good too. SZA is just a queen and Kendrick is a King.
  • KOD – J Cole: Okay this song makes me move my body like I just really like this song. The album was good too. Even though I’m still battling how I feel about the album I know It’s going to be on my playlist for a long time.
  • ATM – J Cole: The beginning of this song just makes me and generally the song is just mad. The beat is on point and apparently, I’m the only that is hearing “Canada Canada Canada Count it” (I know it’s count it up, don’t come and beat me).

Well, These are some of my favourite songs on my playlist right now if you haven’t listened to some or all of them you can by clicking any of the songs listed above they are all good songs. Thank you so much for reading you can also share song suggestions in the comment section below (I am looking for new songs to listen to) and If you also have a few songs on my playlist corresponding with yours you can also comment below so we can know ourselves. 10 Things I learned Last semester

Hey guys! How are you doing today? Today’s post is going to be about things I learned from last semester. First I would like to announce if you don’t know already I’m in my FINAL YEAR

And I would like to say that 4 months in school is not easy at all not to talk of 4 years and if I am being truthful this was probably my worst semester ever since I have been in school but what kept me going was the fact that I kept telling myself “You have one more year to go” 😂. I can’t even count the number of times I said

“I want to drop out”

The reasons for my sadness this semester are too much to start listing but even In the hard and bad times I still survived and I learned a lot of things which I am going to share with you out of the kindness of my heart 😊:

  • Without God you will just be sad: this is something that Isn’t really New to your ears probably but I can’t stress how important God is in the life of a student. There are sometimes that I just feel sad about everything and I pray to God and this element of happiness just fills my soul if you know what I mean. God is a really important factor for your survival.
  • Never Give up: This is one thing I believe most of us find hard to do. The Art of not giving up is something that few people have. I cannot even count how many times I gave up this semester but the funny one that happens to me Every semester is when I have been attending 7am classes for like half the semester and one morning I just tell myself “What is the point” and I go back to sleep and I miss the class (There goes my perfect attendance record) but as time went on I realized that when you give up on something it has a lot of consequences.
  • Sleep is the devil’s personal equipment: mehnn this semester was so hot and stressful that I allowed sleep get the best of me. After a hot day I get back to my room and I take a little nap (emphasizing on the little) only to wake up the next day and I have a lot of things to submit that day but because of sleep I wake up extremely late and there is no time to do anything. It’s good to sleep but don’t allow it get the best of you.
  • Quality talks with your roommates are the best: This is one of the things I always looked forward to after a long day. In my room, we always had this kind of little talk every chance we had. It was like our very own Bkchat I actually really learned a lot of things that have changed my life for the better from those little talks.
  • Pulling all-nighters all the time is bad for your health: All-nighters are really good in helping you cover what you need to do right before a particular exam or quiz butt it becomes bad when you pull an all-nighter and during the day you are like the walking dead. I remember one time I went all night reading and during my exam, I started falling asleep it wasn’t funny at all. Don’t be like me, read and get enough sleep.
  • People are just naturally toxic: I am guilty of giving toxic people more chances than they deserve. This semester the Lord opened my eye to the toxic people in my life. Sometimes we misjudge people and have too much hope that they’ll be able to change. it’s better to cut those people out of your lives. You’ll take time to recover but eventually, you’ll get there.
  • Its normal to make bad decisions: There are a lot of decisions I made this semester that I totally regret with every bone in me but what can I do being sad about it won’t change anything. Bad decisions are part of life so don’t be ashamed if you mess up. What’s important is that you learn from your mistakes and mature from them.
  • Some of the bad decisions I made helped me make good friends: This is evidence that shows that in every bad situation good can always come out. I made a lot of friends in the process of fixing my mistakes which from my point of view was a blessing.
  • Don’t be afraid to try again even when you fail: This is not easy to do at all but you can make it. Imagine pulling an all-nighter for a test and you end up getting 2/10 your will to learn will just reduce to 1% but that doesn’t mean you should give up on the other tests you will still have. You have to try your best with the next one and you will definitely do better.
  • Don’t ever talk about tests/exams straight after: Please don’t ever do this you will regret it Talking about the tests and exams straight after usually makes you second guess yourself and feel guilty about the questions you got wrong. If you don’t get that feeling of self-doubt, you still shouldn’t compare with friends, because you might make them feel bad without meaning to. Immediately after an exam I always run to my hall or I flee from any appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22) 🙂

Well, these are the major things I learned from last semester I am going to write a post on how to prepare for next semester (Anticipate that). Thank you so much for reading you can also share what you learned in the comment section below (Let’s see if we learned similar things). Don’t forget to share! bye

How to get out of a toxic relationship

Hello beautiful and welcome to Lamina’s Thoughts. I’m not from here…. per say I’m David Cromwell from Thoughts of Cromwell (but you probably noticed that since I’m way cooler than precious). I’m here to round up the topic of “Toxic relationships”. Precious has already told you how to know you’re in one and I’m here to give you the escape route from such relationships. It’s not news that anything tagged as “Toxic” is bad for you – like obviously! But no worries, I understand, relationships involve commitment, mental and emotional energy, time, and much more, so leaving them can be really hard but I’m here to help with that. Here’s how to leave that toxic relationship:

Have a talk with yourself

This is the first and probably the most crucial step needed to leave a toxic relationship and it involves convincing the most important person that its time to move and that’s… You. An important thing you’ll need for this talk is a little before and after, let me explain. Analyze who you were before the relationship, your outlook on life, your ambitions, your disposition to life, analyze yourself completely before the relationship and now do an after check. You could make a comparison on a piece of paper and if it is a toxic relationship, you would probably notice that you have changed for the worse. From there, all you need is to remind yourself that you have only one life and there’s no point in wasting this one. Just do this to reaffirm your stance and beef up your mental strength to take this step. Another thing to realize is to know that things can’t get worse from here, so freedom is the beginning of better things.

Now on to the next step:

Have “The Talk”

Yeah, its time for the jump. You’re probably wondering “Why so early?” After all, you just convinced yourself, so why the rush? Well, here’s why – “You are smart”. We are all really smart when it comes to getting out of uncomfortable situations, so the more time you take on decisions like these, the more convincing your reasons become not to make them. So, when you have convinced yourself that its time to move, have the talk soonest, so the excuse generator isn’t given the chance to get running.

So, what does “The Talk” comprise of? Simple, your talk with yourself. Let your partner know how much the relationship has been detrimental to you and how things would be better without it. Warning! Things might get messy and you might feel like backing out but don’t, freedom is within arm’s reach, just keep going.

A little tip that could help is letting your partner know how the relationship has been detrimental to them also. Time to let you know something about toxic relationships – It’s a two-way thing, just as it has hindered you, in some way, it has hindered your partner also, you just feel your end more because…. You’re you (I know that sounds funny, but really you are you). So, finding the hindrances to your partner and stating them in “The Talk” would do a great deal.

That’s pretty much all you need. I know some might be thinking “Shouldn’t I talk to my friends or family about it?”, Well, I say you can, but you should probably not. It’s because at the end of the day it’s your decision, your friends and family see your relationship from a perspective, some might only see the good, while others might see the not-so-good, only you get to see every part (only you and God that is, but you get my point). Besides, if your friends are anything like mine, you would probably end up more confused than when you started, my friends would probably say something like “Guy, you should leave, you don’t really look happy anymore… but you guys are quite cute together though… Maybe you should stay… See, it’s your decision, do what’s best for you.” Imagine the level of confusion I’d have after this, so I advise to just skip it and do you.

That’s a wrap, I hope you were able to gain something from this post and it helped you in any way possible. If you need to talk more, just use the comment section and we can talk it out. If you want to read more from me (cause I’m cooler than precious), just click here.
